Halloweening
Some of the stuff we've been doing (with more or less success, but hey, at least I'm making an effort!):
Ghost toasts and jack-o'-lantern bread:

We also did Apple Bites (link in previous post) but the picture didn't come out. The boys didn't eat the almonds anyway, and they are kind of fussy to make, but the effect was neat.
Halloween crafts:

Salt dough creations and a clip-on bat.
I tried to get Pedro interested in some of this Halloween Origami for Kids (and he even watched the video on making the cat and broomstick figures) but so far, no go. But, there are a lot of days until Halloween still.
The haunted castle cake didn't come out-- I need to work on my Bundt technique. Oh well.
In other news, when I picked Pedro up from school yesterday, he greeted me with "Good news!" and a big smile. Yep, the tooth had finally fallen out. He had wrapped it up in toilet paper and brought it home for the Ratoncito Pérez, who came through last night with two coins, 3 euros in total. Now that is a pretty impressive haul for a tooth, I'd say. Today we went to the store and Pedro bought a Batman Matchbox car and a huevo kinder and even had a bit of change left over. No Halloween stuff out yet, though last year they did have a whole area devoted to stuff for it-- I guess they will put it out a bit later.

Kate, here's a page with a link to a video showing how to make a witch's broom with string and your fingers. Like cat's cradle, but a broom. Maybe they would like doing that?

Hmm, I'll give it a try. I had no idea that these figures were so widespread (I only knew the cat's cradle)-- examples from all around the world. I guess that is one of the things we lose in the transition from an orally-based culture to a literate culture-- or maybe more precisely, a culture of telling stories around the hearth to a culture of TV and other media telling us the stories...
These are all so cute! Halloween is my favorite holiday.

That "Ghost Toast" is the cutest dang thing I've seen all week (well, after that gibbon during my zoo trip :))
