Hmm, I'll give it a try. I had no idea that these figures were so widespread (I only knew the cat's cradle)-- examples from all around the world. I guess that is one of the things we lose in the transition from an orally-based culture to a literate culture-- or maybe more precisely, a culture of telling stories around the hearth to a culture of TV and other media telling us the stories...
